BELLES | Grades 5-7
By what criteria and timeline are candidates are accepted?
Candidate’s academic and extracurricular activities, as well as, community service involvement are considered. Candidates will receive a response within 3 business days of application submission. You will then have up to 7 days to confirm. Selected candidates are accepted on a rolling basis until August 31, 2024.
We ask all participants complete an application and the consideration process in order to ensure there is a well-rounded class with diverse academic and extracurricular interests. This affords young ladies the opportunity to learn from the cultural experiences of others.
What is the time commitment?
Young ladies are expected to attend monthly 2.0 hour lessons held every 1st Sunday of the month (October -April) which includes a formal Sunday dinner.
Sessions are from 3:00 – 5:00 PM
In addition, our Belles, grades 5-7, will attend cultural outings throughout the year. On average, one cultural event per month (i.e. show at Kennedy Center, Hillwood House, National Theatre, etc.). Participants may also receive assignments in preparation for lessons and activities.
Who leads the lessons?
Etiquette expert Crystal L. Bailey leads lessons and cultural excursions. Guest speakers are invited for specific topics. Ms. Bailey is a member of the Cercle International des Experts en Etiquette et Protocole and is a recipient of the Excellence in Service Award from AD Excellence. Ms. Bailey received her training from Debrett’s London and Etiquette à la Française. She is also certified by the London Image Institute as an image consultant. Recognized for her fresh approach, she is called upon by Fortune 500 companies and international media outlets to include the BBC, CNN and French Television.
In addition, guest artists, industry leaders and experts will offer master lessons to students to include public speaking, leadership, image consulting, grooming, hand lettering and floral design.
What does tuition cover?
Each session includes Sunday dinner at Morrison Clark during the latter portion of our session. This ensures students have a mastery of fine dining etiquette by the end of the year along with conversation skills.
Tuition covers all lessons and cultural experiences for participants to include ballet tickets, museum admission, workshops, formal dinners, holiday afternoon tea and Finale Tea graduation ticket for student.
Is there a sibling discount?
Sibling discounts are available. Please inquire with Ms. Bailey.
May parents attend lessons as well?
As our goal is to inspire independent young ladies, we set aside special times for parents to observe and participate in lessons and activities.
What is the tuition schedule for Belles?
2024-2025 Year-long Tuition is 2625 USD. The following payment schedule is available. Payment in full is also available.
i. Upon Acceptance – 875 USD
ii. October 15, 2024 – 875 USD
iii. January 15, 2025 – 875 USD
What are the differences between Belles and Chéries?
In the past, we offered only one age group. However, in order to welcome younger students to begin honing their social graces, we now offer 2 programs. Please confirm you are applying for the correct age group. As the Chéries program does not include cultural outings, it is offered at a different tuition rate.

When and where are lessons held?
Lesson are held at the Morrison Clark Historic Inn located at 11th and L Sts NW. Lessons are held every 1st Sunday of the month. Supplemental events will be in the DC Metropolitan area.

What is the history of the program?
The Etiquette Institute of Washington is delighted to celebrate its 12th year of excellence in etiquette education. For nearly a decade, our prestigious Finishing School has been refining the social graces and personal poise of young girls. The program originally commenced on the campus of St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School.
As we grew, we transitioned to the sophisticated and historic setting of The Morrison Clark-Inn, enhancing the experience with its elegant ambiance. We take immense pride in the achievements of our graduates, who continue to excel in their academic and personal lives. Our doors remain open to alumni, welcoming them back for refresher courses and continued guidance as they journey through life.
